BEIRUT: An undergrad at Damascus University shot and killed one of his fellow students and wounded four others Tuesday, the state-run Syrian National News Agency (SANA) reported.

SANA said Ammar Baloush, a student of biochemical engineering, opened fire with his pistol during a class session at his faculty, killing student Hussein Ghannam and wounding Sultan Radwan, Khodr Hazem, George Farah and Pierre Lahham.

It said Baloush had deliberately chosen the five students as his targets and aimed his gun at them.

SANA said a manhunt was under way to arrest Baloush.
