Lebanon Palestinians protest Golan deaths
SIDON: Palestinian refugees in south Lebanon protested Monday against Israel’s weekend shooting on the Golan Heights by blocking roads at the entrances to refugee camps with burning tires.

Israeli troops Sunday battled hundreds of pro-Palestinian protesters who tried to cross Syria’s frontier with the Golan Heights, killing a reported 20 people and wounding scores more in the second outbreak of deadly violence in the border area in less than a month.

The clashes, marking the Naksa, or the anniversary of the Arab defeat in the 1967 war, drew Israeli accusations that Syria was orchestrating the violence to shift attention away from a bloody crackdown on opposition protests at home.

Schools and UNRWA-run institutions closed Monday across Ain el-Hilweh, Lebanon’s largest refugee camp, which lies on the outskirts of the southern port city of Sidon, and in the nearby Mieh Mieh shantytown.

Angry residents walked out of their homes in spontaneous protests before midday Monday in Ain el-Hilweh and Mieh Mieh, shouting anti-Israeli slogans.

The Naksa was marked peacefully in Lebanon Sunday, after original planned protests were called off.

Palestinian organizers had planned to march to Lebanon’s border with Israel, but last week the Lebanese Army declared the border area a “closed military zone” to prevent protesters from reaching the border. The closure was intended to avoid a repeat of the events of the march on the anniversary of Nakba on May 15, during which Israeli forces killed 11 protesters.

What is with this wording? 'Israeli troops Sunday BATTLED hundreds of pro-Palestinian protesters'? The Palestinians were unarmed! The fully armed Israeli troops ATTACKED and Killed the Palestinians! The Israelis were on occupied Syrian territory! Once again young Palestinian have their lives snuffed out so that Israel can hold onto stolen land!
So now do you think the International Community will freeze the assets of the Israeli Government? or Send gunships to 'protect the Palestinian civilians?
Of course they won't!

I wanted to say that this crime by the Israeli government against the people of the Golan Heights should be condemned by the United Nations and all people of the world. Israel is the only country in the world that doesn't have permanent borders.Since the United Nations is not doing anything about it the people living in Syria and the surrounding area are doing something about it.They should be supported by all unions and progressive organizations in the world. The Golan Heights belongs to Syria, and the United Nations and other world bodies should make sure that it returns to Syria as soon as possible.

There was zero reason to use deadly force in the matter. Even if the fence was breached the unarmed mostly woman and children could do no harm. The area was empty other than the fence. IT is a disgrace that they used live bullets and then try to blame someone else for their tendency to be vicious for no reason other than they are allowed to do what they like. They murder in other countries then shot people for trying to bring food to the starving. They cry about they want secure borders while they refuse to apply any rules to protect others from the overly armed thugs of settlers. I feel the world can see what they do and the usual control of the story does not work. Had they had camera phones during the massive murdering after the declaration that they owned Israel would probably have done them in. I sure hope that the smart people of Israel stop being dumb as they were when they fired into another country murdering and then trying to say it was the fault of someone else. shame.
