BEIRUT: Caretaker Foreign Minister Ali Shami said Tuesday Lebanese-Syrian ties were governed by the 1989 Taif Accord, which stipulates that Lebanon’s security is dependent on that of Syria and vice versa.
“Thus neither Lebanon nor Syria should be a passage to assaults or a launch pad for wars against each other,” Shami said.
Shami added that he opposed any interference in the internal affairs of any Arab country including Syria.
Damascus has accused the Future Movement of fueling unrest and bringing support for opposition factions against the Syrian regime through smuggling arms and weapons to Syria. The Future Movement has denied all charges.
