BEIRUT: March 14 coalition lawmakers will not boycott a forthcoming parliamentary session over Lebanon’s stance at the Arab League on the crisis in Syria, an outspoken member of the opposition said Tuesday.
“March 14 coalition lawmakers will not boycott Wednesday’s session because it will be one that is an institutional rather than political confrontation,” MP Marwan Hamadeh told a local radio station.
On Saturday, Foreign Affairs Minister Adnan Mansour voted against a decision by the Arab League to suspend Syria’s membership from the organization, a move that was blasted by the opposition which said had defied the “Arab will.”
Lebanon’s vote against the Arab League’s decision to suspend Syria’s participation in the League’s meetings seems to have thrown the Cabinet into disarray with some ministers complaining that they were not notified of the controversial Lebanese stance taken by Mansour.
Hamadeh said the issue of calling for a vote of confidence in Mansour needed to pass several stages and that the forthcoming parliamentary meeting was reserved for ministers to pose questions.
