BEIRUT: Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri congratulated Monday lawyer Nuhad Jabr on his recent election as head of the Beirut Bar Association.

More than 3,000 lawyers from both sides of the political divide took part in the election. Jabr clinched his victory with 2073 votes while Antonio Hashem, a lawyer backed by Hezbollah, received 1623.

According to a statement from Hariri’s office, the Future Movement head telephoned Jabr and congratulated him on the win.

Speaking after the results showed a clear victory for him, Jabr vowed Sunday to work with all lawyers at the association without any preference for one side against another.

“This association will remain a national one that brings together all Lebanese,” Jabr said.
