BEIRUT: There are now 3,643 Syrian nationals registered with the U.N. High Commission for Refugees and Lebanon’s Higher Relief Commission, according to a report from the agency Monday.

The agency said those registered were concentrated in the north of the country and Akkar and that most are residing with host families “in difficult situations.”

“Those who remain are unwilling to return until stability and security is restored in their Syrian villages. Many individuals and families have been deeply affected by the events that caused them to flee and are reluctant to go home until the situation stabilizes,” the report said.

According to the report, 750 of those registered are under the age of four, the biggest age group. The next largest group, at 717 refugees, is made up of children between 5-11 years of age.

The reporting period spans from Nov. 11 to Nov. 18.

In its previous report for the second week of November, the U.N. agency reported 3,581 Syrians as registered with the UNHCR and the Higher Relief Commission.
