BEIRUT: Change and Reform bloc MP Ziad Aswad challenged Wednesday Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s statement that President Bashar Assad’s days are numbered and said events taking place in Syria prove otherwise, the Central News Agency reported.
Aswad also renewed his bloc’s rejection of funding the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, stating that the issue is becoming more complicated and that the bloc rejects funding a tribunal that does not seek justice in a sound manner.
According to Aswad, one of the reasons for his bloc’s rejection of the funding is that the tribunal was established in violation of the Lebanese Constitution as it went over the president and Parliament.
“Those who are pressuring us with sanctions are exerting pressure on Lebanon and forcing us to accept improper conduct at the level of the tribunal’s work,” Aswad said.
