BEIRUT: The Future Movement called on Syria’s government Wednesday to end its brutal crackdown on demonstrators and begin adhering to its agreement with the Arab League.

“The Syrian government should cooperate without any hesitation with the demands of the Arab League because it is the only and best way to secure Syria’s stability,” Akkar MP Hadi Hobeich said, following the bloc’s weekly meeting in Beirut.

Hobeich, who read the bloc’s weekly statement, said that Syria’s refusal to implement the demands of the Arab League and listen “to the demands of the people would result in serious damage.”

Almost two weeks after it was suspended from the Arab League’s meetings, Syria has yet to agree to allow dozens of international and Arab observers and human rights activists into the country to assess the situation on the ground.

“The bloc also wants to praise and pay respect to the martyrs of the Syrian revolution, dozens of whom are falling every day,” said Hobeich, who also called on international community to multiply efforts to protect the peaceful pro-democracy protesters in Syria.

Meanwhile, the Future Movement condemned the reoccurrence of security incidents in Lebanon and demanded that the truth behind certain security incidents be revealed.

“The bloc also asks about the truth behind preventing the security forces to reach to the site of an explosion in the town of Siddiqin today and before that in Al-Roueis area [in Beirut’s southern suburbs] and the truth behind what happened in the Bekaa town of Arsal,” Hobeich added, in reference to a shadowy explosion overnight in the southern village of Siddiqin.

According to a statement from the Lebanese Army, an explosion was heard on the outskirts of the town of Siddiqin shortly before midnight Tuesday. The army believed it was probably due to a land mine.

The bloc also said that the government is required to provide answers on the newly discovered American intelligence networks operating in the country.
