March 14-led Cabinet only way to save Lebanon: Geagea

BEIRUT: Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea called on Prime Minister Najib Mikati to resign from his post and said a government led by the March 14 coalition was the only way to Lebanon’s salvation.

In a wide-ranging interview during Wednesday night’s Al-Istihkak live broadcast on Future News television, Geagea also said the fall of Syrian government was inevitable.

Mikati “must resign to rescue the country from this government and rescue the boat before it sinks," Geagea told Ali Hamadeh, the program’s host.

“But we also have to look for alternatives to the [current] government," he added. “In case it [government] falls, priority goes to forming a March 14-led government if we are able to secure a parliamentary majority."

“The only salvation for Lebanon is to form a government made of [members of the] March 14 coalition that will enact the principles of the Cedar Revolution," Geagea said, vowing to exert every effort in this respect.

Turning to Syria, Geagea said that the fall of President Bashar Assad’s government was “inevitable since it no longer enjoys Arab or international legitimacy."

He also stressed the need not to underestimate the risks from the unrest in the Arab world.

"In every change there are risks that we cannot avoid by trying to go backward. No one can stop change," he said.

Regarding the “intelligence war" between the CIA and Hezbollah, Geagea asked: “Is it not known to everybody that this thing [intelligence] exists in all embassies in the world?"
