BEIRUT: Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri met Thursday French President Nicolas Sarkozy in Paris where the two discussed Lebanon’s funding for the Special Tribunal for Lebanon.

The two also discussed the latest developments at the regional level, according to Hariri’s press office.

The STL, established in 2007 to try those involved in the assassination of Hariri’s father – former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri – has been the center of political debate in Lebanon with the Hezbollah-led March 8 coalition, which has a majority of ministers in the Cabinet, rejecting any attempts to fund Lebanon’s share toward the court.

In late June, the U.N.-backed court indicted four members of Hezbollah in Rafik Hariri’s assassination. The resistance group denies any involvement in the case.

MP Saad Hariri, who heads the Future Movement, is expected to give a speech Sunday during an independence ceremony in Akkar, north Lebanon. It is not know whether Hariri will make his address in person.

The former prime minister, whose Cabinet collapsed in January following the resignation of March 8 ministers, has been out of the country for almost eight months.
