BEIRUT: Lebanese Army chief Jean Kahwagi met with Iranian Ambassador Ghadanfar Rukn Abadi Saturday at Kahwagi's office in Yarze, where the two discussed general issues.
Abadi's visit comes after Iran announced the Islamic Republic's willingness to strengthen military ties with Lebanon by equipping the Lebanese Army.
After his meeting with Foreign Affairs Minister Adnan Mansour on Oct. 11, Abadi said that Iran's military assistance helps the country face Israeli occupation.
“I officially announce today that the Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to strengthen military ties with the republic of Lebanon, particularly in terms of equipping the Lebanese Army in the face of the Israeli occupation, especially during these times,” Abadi said after the meeting with Mansour, adding that the offer was being discussed by the concerned authorities in Lebanon.
Kahwagi returned from the U.S. last week where he was on an official visit to discuss America’s military aid to Lebanon which the U.S. announced it would continue to provide.
