Jumblatt denounces attacks in Ankara

BEIRUT: Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblatt told Turkey’s Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in a telegram that Turkey’s support of popular uprisings in the Arab world contributed to “drawing a new image for the region.”

Jumblatt also condemned an explosion which ripped through Ankara in the telegram he sent to Erdogan Wednesday.

“I would like to express my strong condemnation of this act which killed and wounded several people and extend my condolences to you, your Cabinet, to the Turkish people and the families of victims,” Jumblatt said.

Three were killed and at least 15 wounded in a blast which rocked the center of the Turkish capital Tuesday.

Jumblatt also sent a telegram to Afghanistan’s President Hamid Karzai, expressing his condolences for the death of former Afghani President Burhanudin Rabbani who was killed in a blast Tuesday.
