BEIRUT: A team of Lebanese experts will visit Cyprus to discuss the agreements covering the demarcation of maritime borders between the two countries, and between Cyprus and Israel.
The National News Agency said the topic was raised Friday in a meeting between Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour and his Cypriot counterpart, Erato Kozakou, in New York, on the sidelines of the annual session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The NNA said the delegation would head to Cyprus to discuss “the problems resulting from the two agreements,” namely between Lebanon and Cyprus, and Israel and Cyprus.
At stake are the potential natural gas and oil reserves that have yet to be explored in the eastern Mediterranean.
The Lebanese government has been criticized for failing to correctly demarcate its Exclusive Economic Zone, which must be cemented via bilateral agreements.
