BEIRUT: Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Jeffrey Feltman arrived in Beirut Monday to offer his condolences for the death of former MP and Cabinet Minister Nassib Lahoud.
U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Maura Connelly received Feltman at Rafik Hariri International Airport. Feltman, who arrived from London, is expected to travel to Istanbul in a couple of hours.
Lahoud, who passed away on Thursday at dawn at the age of 68, was also head of the Democratic Renewal Movement
He played a leading role in the March 14 movement that emerged after massive demonstrations in Beirut forced the withdrawal of Syrian troops from Lebanon in 2005 following the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri in a car bomb.
Feltman visited Beirut in early December and met with various Lebanese lawmakers and politicians.
