BEIRUT: A joint Lebanese-Syrian military and security subcommittee met Monday to follow up on the efforts of both countries to stop the smuggling of weapons along the border.
Monday’s meeting centered on the illegal crossings near the Masnaa area of the Bekaa Valley, said the National News Agency.
According to the NNA, the Syrian officials stressed on the importance of buttressing security on the Lebanese side of the border to stop the smuggling from Arsal, Al-Tfeil and Deir al-Ashayer.
Security meetings on border monitoring and security have multiplied in recent weeks, and Interior Minister Marwan Charbel has formed a ministerial committee to discuss security incidents on the border with Syria.
The NNA also said that Lebanese Custom officials at the Masnaa border and Syrian officials agreed to hold continuous meetings.
