BEIRUT: President Michel Sleiman met with head of the Future Movement parliamentary bloc MP Fouad Siniora at Baabda Palace, where the two discussed ongoing efforts to resolving outstanding domestic issues.
Sleiman's office said the two officials also spoke about local and regional developments.
Meetings of the Lebanese cabinet were recently suspended by Prime Minister Najib Mikati, who announced that he would not go back on his decision until all parties in the government agree on a mechanism to restore the government's cohesiveness.
Mikati’s decision came during a Cabinet session last week which ended abruptly over sharp differences between the prime minister and Change and Reform bloc ministers loyal to MP Michel Aoun. Aoun and Mikati have accused each other of obstructing the work of the government.
Efforts have since been launched to resolve the crisis, with Hezbollah attempting to mediate between the two sides.
