BEKAA, Lebanon: Eighteen wounded Syrians have entered Lebanon through Hermel, east Lebanon, over the past 48 hours, Lebanese Red Cross sources said Friday.
The sources, speaking to The Daily Star on condition of anonymity, said the casualties were taken to Beirut.
From there they will be transferred to hospitals across the country, the sources added.
The United Nations estimates that more than 6,000 Syrians have been killed in a crackdown carried out by the regime of embattled Syrian President Bashar Assad against an uprising that is now in its 11th month.
U.N. statistics also indicate that more than 5,600 Syrians have fled to Lebanon since the outbreak of the uprising and that around 150 wounded Syrians have been treated in Lebanon.
