Hariri: Return to Lebanon not tied to developments in Syria

BEIRUT: Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri said Monday he would return to Lebanon soon, adding that a recent skiing accident had delayed his return and dismissed tying his return to Beirut to developments in Syria. 

“My return is not tied to the fall of the Syrian regime,” Hariri, who spoke to Future TV in his first interview since July 12, said.
 
“If I didn’t have this accident, I would have been back in Beirut. I vow and promise everyone that I will be back soon,” Hariri said, adding that there have always been threats against his life.  always been there.
 
“Whoever killed Rafik Hariri can also kill Saad Hariri,” he said.
 
"I have not chosen political exile: I will come back very soon, God willing," he added.
 
He declined to comment whether he would be in the country to commemorate the March 14 anniversary.
 
On the subject of the four suspects in the assassination of his father, Hariri said:
 
“There are accused and they have the right to defend themselves. We have repeatedly asked them to surrender themselves so they can get a fair trial.”
 
“Anyone accused from a particular sect does not mean that the whole sect is accused,” he said. 
 
Hariri said those who killed his father had benefited at the political level. 
 
“Whoever killed Rafik Hariri has benefited politically,” he said.
