BEIRUT: Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea called Tuesday on the regional and international community to exhaust all efforts to end the bloodshed in Lebanon’s neighbor Syria.

“I call on the world, particularly regional countries, to exhaust all efforts to stop the attacks and killing in Syria and grant the people the right to decide their own destiny,” Geagea, speaking at the Beirut International Exhibition and Leisure center, said.

“I see an old generation crumble while a great Arab spring approaches,” he thundered.

In a direct reference to the embattled Syrian regime, Geagea said: “They are now being punished at the hands of their own people.”

“We waited for the international tribunal to achieve justice, but justice descended straight from the heavens.”

"We [March 14 coalition] will be together until we achieve our goal."

He also saluted several Syrian cities including restive Homs, Idlib and Daraa, the last regarded by many as the cradle of the “Syrian revolution.”

“If the massacres of innocent people in Syria are being justified under the slogans of rejectionism and resistance in a manner similar to what happened in Lebanon ... then damn such resistance.”

“To Hezbollah I say ... enough. Democracy and freedom have arrived,” Geagea said.

“Despite threats and intimidation and rumors of possible assassinations, we came to commemorate this event. Our cause is more important than everything,” he said.

“What is happening in the region validates our revolution,” he added.

“Our pride is that we dared [to revolt] at a time when no one did, whether as part of the government or as an opposition, and our cause must persist in the face of any and all challenges,” Geagea said.
