BEIRUT: Progressive Socialist Party (PSP) leader Walid Jumblatt and Turkish Foreign Affairs Minister Ahmet Davutoglu voiced a shared view Friday that the only solution to end violence in Syria is a political one.

During his one-day visit to Turkey Jumblatt met with Davutoglu and the two discussed current regional developments.

“The visit was to affirm the importance of exhausting all political and humanitarian efforts to save Syria from its crisis and to stress the need for a political solution as the only alternative to the regime's exacerbation of the use of violence that results in violence,” according to a PSP statement.

This visit was also part of Jumblatt and Davutoglu's agreement to maintain talks on the situation in Lebanon and the Arab region.

Jumblatt has asked Syria’s allies Russia and Iran to convince President Bashar Assad that the only solution to end the crisis in the country is a change in government while Turkey has repeatedly asked Assad to step down.
