BEIRUT: A Lebanese former employee with the state-run telecoms operator Ogero was charged Wednesday with spying for Israel.
Security sources, speaking to The Daily Star on condition of anonymity, said Military Prosecutor Judge Saqr Saqr charged the man on suspicion of having met with Israeli officials abroad and provided them with telecoms data in return for money.
The retired Ogero employee was not identified in accordance with the law. He was referred to examining military judge Riad Abu Ghida for interrogation.
If convicted, the suspect faces the death penalty.
Another former Ogero employee arrested on suspicion of spying for Israel was released by Lebanese authorities in November 2011 after three months in detention.
Lebanon has already charged two employees working for state-owned mobile telecoms firm Alfa with spying for Israel.
