Nasrallah, Mikati discussed STL during secret meet: report

BEIRUT: Prime Minister Najib Mikati discussed the Special Tribunal for Lebanon during a recent meeting with Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah, Al-Akhbar newspaper reported Friday.

It said that contrary to the usual custom where Hezbollah would release a statement and a picture about Nasrallah’s meetings with political leaders, talks between the Hezbollah chief and Mikati, which took place last month, were kept hush-hush.

The Daily Star could not confirm Al-Akhbar's report as calls to Mikati’s office went unanswered while Hezbollah’s press office said the party would have announced the meeting had it taken place.

Al-Akhbar said Nasrallah reportedly appeared gloomy during the meeting, saying the Hezbollah leader did not wear his usual smile.

Nasrallah was said to have told Mikati: “You betrayed us,” in reference to the prime minister’s agreement to fund the U.N.-backed tribunal probing the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Rafik Hariri.
