BEIRUT: The Future Movement-led March 14 coalition called on Hezbollah to find an appropriate way to hand over its weapons to the Lebanese state.

“The Syrian Revolution entered a new phase after the recent speech of Syrian regime President [Bashar Assad], who reiterated his commitment to the bloody crackdown against unarmed citizens,” said a statement issued by the March 14 General Secretariat.

“This [Syrian] revolution and its impact on the Lebanese reality make it imperative for the Lebanese parties to bear in mind [the need to] maintain civil peace and coexistence,” the coalition's statement added following its weekly meeting.

“We call on Hezbollah, which possesses weapons outside the control of the state, to rush to find a final solution and an appropriate way to hand over its arms to the Lebanese state as per the 1989 Taif Accord,” March 14 stressed.
