BEIRUT: Lebanon has asked the Syrian authorities to clarify the circumstances surrounding the weekend killing of a Lebanese teenager in the border town of Arida.
“We have asked the Syrian authorities to clarify the incident with the fishing trawler and the detention of the boat’s passengers in Syria,” Interior Minister Marwan Charbel said in remarks published Tuesday by the daily Al-Joumhouria.
He said Lebanon will compare the outcome of the Syrian probe with the results of the Lebanese investigation.
Syrian forces opened fire Saturday on a boat carrying Lebanese fishermen off the coast of Arida, north Lebanon, killing 17-year-old Maher Hamad.
