BEIRUT: The Lebanese Army is capable of defending the border and curbing arms smuggling, Future Movement MP Khaled Zahraman said Tuesday, urging the government to protect the frontier.
“So long as the Lebanese Army is provided with political support, it will be capable of protecting the border and curtailing arms smuggling,” Zahraman told Al-Jadid television channel.
On the issue of Syrian refugees in Lebanon, Zahraman stressed that the Future Movement of former Prime Minister Saad Hariri is “dealing with the matter from a purely humanitarian perspective.”
He said that calls by a number of Future Movement lawmakers for the deployment of international troops along the Lebanon-Syria border do not reflect the views of the Future Movement, stressing that they emanated from individuals and not the party.
