BEIRUT: President Michel Sleiman condemned the assassination attempt on MP Butros Harb Friday and the means used to destabilize the country.

According to Sleiman's press office, the president met with Harb at Baabda Palace and affirmed that he has ordered security and judicial authorities to uncover the circumstances and perpetrators behind the incident.

Harb announced Thursday that he survived an attempt on his life when two explosive detonators were found on top of an elevator in a building housing his law office.

The March 14 MP informed the president of the details of the attempted killing, stressing that his feeling that the case should be followed up on stems from his keenness to preserve security in the country.

Sleiman also met with head of the Internal Security Forces Maj. Gen. Ashraf Rifi who said that the security services have intensified their efforts in the investigation.
