BEIRUT: Future Movement MP Hadi Hobeish said Monday that recent remarks by a colleague in the bloc in which he called the Army commander a failure do not reflect the opinion of the Future Movement. Speaking to a local radio station, he said Akkar MP Mouin Merhebi’s remarks “do not represent the Future Movement’s stance which is supportive of the Lebanese Army.” He said his movement wagers on the role of the Army and Internal Security Forces in preserving order in the country and protecting the Lebanese. Merhebi called Army Commander Gen. Jean Kahwagi a failure Sunday, accusing him of taking advantage of his position in an attempt to become the next president. The Army responded strongly and accused him of making remarks to attract popular support, less than one year before the 2013 parliamentary polls.
