MP says Lebanon should complain to U.N. over Israel kidnapping

BEIRUT: Marjayoun-Hasbaya MP Qassem Hashem said Saturday that Lebanon should file a complaint against Israel following its Friday kidnapping of a Lebanese shepherd in the Shebaa Farms region.

“We should file a complaint with the U.N. Security Council regarding the aggressive Zionist practices,” said Hashem in a statement.

“I am following up on the case of kidnapped citizen Youssef Zahra by the Israeli Army with concerned authorities and the Foreign Ministry to secure his release,” he added.

Youssef Mohammad Zahra was kidnapped Friday by an Israeli infantry patrol at 3 p.m. from Marj al-Teiss, the Lebanese Army said Friday. It added that both the Lebanese Army and the U.N. Interim Force in Lebanon are working to release the 18-year-old shepherd.

Marj al-Teiss is a disputed area claimed by Lebanon.

Israel also kidnapped and released a Syrian shepherd from Shebaa Farms last week.

Qassem pointed out that Friday’s kidnapping was not the first and claimed that it would not be the last, stressing the importance of the resistance party in defending Lebanese sovereignty.

“Where are the international guarantees, and where is Resolution 1701 in the face of Israel’s repeated violations?” he asked.
