BEIRUT: Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri postponed Tuesday the approval of a controversial law that would make contract workers at Electricite du Liban full-time employees.

Berri said approval of the law would likely be postponed till Nov. 7 or 8.

Parliament convened Tuesday to approve 23 draft laws, including that of the EDL that has been slammed by the Future Movement.

Berri chaired the ordinary session which was also designed to elect parliamentary committees and Parliament’s secretariat.

All committee members were re-elected to the same posts.

When the session was over, a parliamentary subcommittee formed to study two controversial items in the Cabinet’s draft election law held its first meeting.
