BEKAA, Lebanon: A Lebanese man was killed and his brother was wounded by Syrian gunfire as they took a night walk in the border village of Tufeil, the town’s mayor said Wednesday.
“Abdallah Mrad was killed and his brother Mamdouh was wounded by gunfire from the Syrian side of the border,” Tufeil Mayor Ali Mahmoud al-Shoum told The Daily Star, adding that the incident took place around midnight.
Mamdouh was taken to Dar al-Amal hospital in Baalbek, some 45 kilometers from Tufeil.
The Mrad brothers are known for smuggling fuel oil along the Syria-Lebanon border. It is unclear if they were intentionally targeted.
