BEIRUT: French President Francois Hollande voiced his support Monday for President Michel Sleiman’s calls for holding elections based on the law approved by Parliament as well as organizing a global conference that seeks to lessen the burden of Syrian refugees on Lebanon.

He announced his support during a telephone conversation with his Lebanese counterpart.

“Hollande hailed Sleiman’s insistence on holding the parliamentary elections according to the law passed by the Lebanese Parliament because it reflects the democratic practice and the rotation of power,” said a statement released by the president’s office.

“The French president also backed Sleiman’s call for holding an international conference that seeks to share the burdens and distribution of Syrian refugees,” the statement added.

Hollande also conveyed his country’s Easter greetings.
