BEIRUT: Future Movement MP Ghazi Youssef said he will sue Energy Minister Gebran Bassil for embezzlement.

“Bassil has so far stolen nearly $995 million,” Youssef said in remarks published Thursday by the Lebanese newspaper Al-Joumhouria.

Youssef has brought similar allegations against Telecoms Minister Nicolas Sehnaoui, accusing him of embezzling more than $60 million via a contract to expand Lebanon’s 3G network.

“I am preparing a powerful case against Bassil similar to that against Sehnaoui, even though lawyers advised me not to do so because they are protected from their masters who control the country politically and militarily,” Youssef said.

Sehnaoui said last week that he would sue Youssef over his accusations and vowed to put him in jail.
