BEIRUT: Speaker Nabih Berri received messages Saturday from his Iranian counterpart, Ali Larijani, and Qatar's new Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.

Iran's Ambassador to Lebanon Ghazanfar Roknabadi visited the speaker in his Ain Al-Tineh residence and handed him a letter from Iran’s Parliament Speaker Larijani, the state-run National News Agency reported.

The letter congratulated Berri “for the victory of the resistance and the Lebanese people in July war 2006.”

Berri and Roknabadi also discussed ties between the two countries and recent regional and international developments.

The speaker also received a thank you note from Qatar’s new Emir after Berri recently cabled Hamad Al-Thani congratulating him on his new post.
