Sleiman congratulates Rouhani on election win

BEIRUT: President Michel Sleiman congratulated Iranian President-elect Hassan Rouhani Monday on his election victory, a statement from Sleiman’s office said.

Sleiman sent a message to Rouhani that said he hoped for further cooperation between Lebanon and Iran, according to the statement.

Talal Arslan, the leader of the Lebanese Democratic Party, also sent a message to Rouhani congratulating him over “the triumph of democracy” and said he is confident Rouhani will preserve “Iran’s prosperity and leading role in the resistance axis.”

Reform-minded Rouhani won Iran's presidential election in the first round Saturday with over 50 percent of the vote, avoiding a runoff.
