BEIRUT: Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea congratulated Saturday newly elected Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades on winning in the recent election in the Mediterranean island.
“In the name of the Lebanese Forces, I am honored and happy to congratulate you on your election as president of Cyprus and I hope you succeed in implementing this noble and responsible mission,” Geagea said in a letter sent to the Cypriot leader.
Rightwing leader Nicos Anastasiades won the presidential election in Cyprus on Feb. 24 with 57.5 percent of the votes in a second round run-off against contender Stavros Malas.
“I am confident that the Cypriot and Lebanese peoples have shared values and democratic principles and they will continue their joint efforts to strengthen the foundations of economic prosperity, security, stability and peace in the Mediterranean,” the LF leader also said in the statement.
