BEIRUT: Lebanon’s Cabinet referred Thursday a divisive draft wage hike bill for the public sector to Parliament, in a move that could end a month long of strike action and protests by teachers and civil servants.

Launched on Feb. 19, the open-ended strike coupled with daily protests have crippled work at government buildings and public schools.

The Cabinet postponed to Friday discussions on creating an elections committee tasked with overseeing the upcoming parliamentary polls as well as extending the terms of both the head of the Internal Security Forces and the Lebanese Army.
