BEIRUT: A recent phone call between Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun and Lebanese Forces head Samir Geagea paves the way for a possible understanding between the two rivals on a new electoral law and the formation of the next Cabinet, an FPM MP said Saturday.

“The direct contact between the two men paves way for further understanding over several issues, particularly the Cabinet [formation] and the [parliamentary] elections,” Naji Gharios, from Aoun’s Change and Reform bloc, told the Free Lebanon Radio station.

Media reports over the weekend said that Aoun and Geagea spoke Friday about the latest developments in Lebanon, mainly the government formation process and efforts to reach an agreement over a new parliamentary electoral law, during a telephone conversation.

Gharios said that there was no “disruption” between Aoun and Geagea, adding that contact between them is always “ongoing through some channels of communication.”
