ALGIERS: A roadside bomb has killed three Algerian soldiers and four auxiliaries in the west of the North African country, the defense ministry said Sunday.

Saturday's blast struck in the Sid Bel-Abbes region 440 kilometres (275 miles) west of the capital, the ministry said.

The auxiliaries were members of the village guards -- a militia formed by the government in 1994 at the height of the country's devastating decade-long civil war to fight Islamist militants.
