Middle Eastern films seem to be more present and competitive this year in the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film category.Palestinian Hany Abu-Assad succeeds in participating in the competition for the third time with his film "The Idol," after both his films "Paradise Now"(2005) and "Omar"(2013) were short-listed in previous years.Iranian-French movie "The Salesman" is a drama which has also been selected to enter this award film category. In March 1957, which marked the 29th Academy Award, the journey for non-English language films started. The Arab world rode the journey to the Oscars, but only the Algerian film "Z" won in 1969 . Since that date, only nine films have been nominated for the award. The film "Cairo Station," by internationally acclaimed director Youssef Chahine, was the first Arab and African movie to be considered for the award in 1959, but it missed the nomination.
