The concept of urban development has been evolving since 1976 and ever since, the world has been putting high expectations on facing global challenges through urban development as cities have been recognized as "engines of growth".The amount of data and publications produced with free access to public is key in reviewing and following the international debate on urban development. It is really substantial to have urban observatories that collect and produce official and precise urban data that can help diagnose the circumstances of each city and write accurate reports that present concrete evidence on the real challenges burdening Lebanese society. For this reason, if the Lebanese government is keen to commit to the new urban agenda at the national level and take action to face the challenges stated in the report, having urban observatories that produce official and updated data is the first step toward having an evidence-based approach in urban policies.
