Oct. 2 marked the International Day of Non-Violence honoring Mahatma Gandhi's birthday. The immense human suffering and economic cost of conflict around the world indicateshow complicated and challenging it is.A whole new partnership approach toward crisis management and conflict prevention is required. This combined effort adopted the concept of "togetherness," illustrating the main theme of the International Peace Day 2017, in a shared commitment from both organizations to prevent conflicts. It paves the way toward a new global system where an inclusive and comprehensive approach to development, diplomacy, mediation and security prevents conflict from becoming violent.Preventing violent conflicts is a common agenda to the United Nations, the World Bank and many organizations and institutions that have different but complementary mandates.A question to be asked is in the presence of this goodwill, how capable are these organizations to attain world peace and prosperity?A rebalanced approach to peace and security by preventing conflict rather than responding to it is essential.
