Sneijder says staying put, Forlan joins Inter

BEIRUT: Wesley Sneijder has confirmed that he wants to stay at current club Inter Milan and not join Manchester United.

"I'm staying at Inter. I don't think I'll leave at this moment of market," Sneijder told Sender Nos. "Manchester United? Anything is possible in football, but I don't think this time something will happen.

"I know that if I were to leave it would have be for the right price, Inter was clear about that. But I have not spoken formally with the two Manchester clubs."

Meanwhile, Arsenal are close to signing Fenerbache and Brazil full back Andre Santos for £6.2million ($9.9 million).  Santos is Brazil’s first choice left back and has 22 caps for the Brazilian side.

The transfer comes in wake of Arsenal’s 8-2 demolition by Manchester United on Sunday. Wenger confirmed after the match that he was chasing new recruits to strengthen his team.

Another player who could join Arsenal is Yossi Benayoun who has reportedly been subject of a £7million ($9.9 million) bid for the midfielder who is also reportedly a target for Lille and Liverpool. The Israeli confirmed on Monday that  he is talks over a move. "Negotiating with several teams... news soon," wrote Benayoun on Twitter.

Liverpool have reportedly rejected an offer for Raul Meireles from Chelsea, the bid is reported to be worth £7million ($9.9 million) with Benayoun going the other way. Chelsea are believed interested in Meireles because of Tottenham's refusal to sell midfielder Luka Modric.

Liverpool on the other hand want Daniel Sturridge to be part of any deal for the Portuguese midfielder.

Inter Milan have confirmed deals for Uruguayan striker Diego Forlan and Italian midfielder Andrea Poli.

A La Liga topscorer with both Villarreal and Atletico, the former Manchester United forward was voted best player at the World Cup finals in South Africa last year as Uruguay reached the last four.

"Farewells are always hard, because it has been four years plus the three at Villarreal and now... I will be leaving behind people's kindness, which I will never forget," Forlan said at a news conference in the Spanish capital.

"I am looking forward very much to rejuvenating myself, it's all new and it's where you find motivation because the challenges are greater.

"You don't often get a chance to go to Inter at the age of 32 and I hope I can live up to the expectations."

The Copa America winner's arrival at Inter is good news for coach Gian Piero Gasperini, who has lost forwards Samuel Eto'o and Goran Pandev to Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala and Napoli respectively.

The Italian club, who lost their domestic crown to local rivals AC Milan last season, said in a statement on their website (www.inter.it) later that Forlan had arrived in the city and would complete his move on Tuesday.

"I am here to continue winning with Inter," the club quoted him as telling journalists at Linate airport. "My goal is to play and score as much as possible for my new team."

Forlan helped Atletico to a Europa League triumph in the 2009-10 season, when they also reached the final of Spain's King's Cup.

His club form dipped last season and Atletico announced last week they had given him permission to negotiate a transfer.

However, he was as sharp as ever at international level as he helped Uruguay win the Copa America this year, scoring twice in their 3-0 final win over Paraguay.

Inter Milan have signed highly-rated Italian Under-21 midfielder Andrea Poli from relegated Sampdoria, the Serie A giants announced.

"The loan agreement, with an option to buy outright, with U.C. Sampdoria has just been signed and the player's contract will run until 30 June 2016 (should the rights be acquired)," it said in a statement.
