Chelsea confirmed Tuesday they have signed Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid on a five-year deal. The West London club met the 32 million pounds ($54 million) buy-out clause of the Spanish international striker last month. With Cesc Fabregas and Filipe Luis already signing on the dotted line from Barcelona and Tiago Mendes returning to Stamford Bridge after nine years of travels, Costa is the latest in a series of impressive early transfer dealings by the Blues.During the last year, notably since the departure of Radamel Falcao to Monaco, Costa has become one of the symbols of an Atletico team which were among the best in Europe last season.Toward the end of a long campaign, which saw Costa make 51 appearances for Atleti, his form did tail off slightly – although he was plagued with an on-going injury problem at this point – and it is possible, if unlikely, last season's feats were a fluke.Strictly based on last season, there are few better men than Costa to play Chelsea's central striker role.
