Nejmeh's title defense got off to the worst possible start Sunday as the reigning champions were defeated 1-0 by arch-rivals Safa in matchday one of the Lebanese Football League. In Samir Saad's first match in charge of the 2013 champions, Ibrahim Bahsoun profited from a calamitous error from Nejmeh goalkeeper Ali al-Sabaa to settle a riveting encounter in the 48th minute. Safa rode their first-half luck and three minutes after the restart took a shock lead through midfielder Bahsoun.Nour Mansour came closest to Safa's second, his 52nd minute free kick bouncing back off the upright, but Nejmeh offered little resistance as Safa comfortably held on to draw first blood in the title race.
