BEIRUT: Lebanon’s Katya Bachrouche has won her fourth gold medal in the 2011 Arab Games in Doha. Bachrouche competed in the women’s 200-meter individual medley final Thursday and finished with a time of 2:17.10.
Moroccan Sara al-Bekri finished second at 2:17.24.
Earlier in the competition, 22-year-old Bachrouche won gold medals in the women’s 200-meter, 400-meter and 800-meter freestyle, as well as two bronze medals for the women’s 100-meter butterfly and 50-meter freestyle.
Fellow Lebanese swimmer Nibal Yamout also competed in the 200 meter individual medley final and finished in seventh place with a final time of 2:26.63.
Bachrouche’s gold takes her personal medal count up to six for the 2011 Arab Games and Lebanon’s total medal count to 25. Lebanon has collected seven gold, five silver and 13 bronze medals so far.
Elsewhere in the Arab Games Thursday, Lebanese shooter Ray Bassil won silver in the Women’s trap shooting final, finishing second to Qatari Amna Mesaad al-Abdulla.
Wael Koubrousli also competed in swimming for the men’s side. He finished sixth in the 200-meter breaststroke final with a time of 2:27.40. Oussama Mellouli of Tunisia won with a time of 2:16.53.
Joelle Daou was the top-placed finisher from Lebanon for the women’s individual road race finals, finishing seventh out of 18 competitors with a time of 1:18.31. Maya Bou Nassar came 13th with a time of 1:18.35 and Carole Boyadjian finished 17th in 1:21.49. Samah Khaled of Jordan finished first overall in this event.
In team sports, Lebanon’s women’s fencing team lost to Tunisia.
Lebanon also finished in fifth out of five teams in women’s road racing. Tunisia came in first, followed by Egypt, Jordan and Morocco, with the Lebanese wrapping up the group with a time of 3:58.55.
Egypt leads the overall medal count at the games with 233. Tunisia lies in second place with 136, while Morocco is in third place with 112 medals.
