LONDON/BEIRUT: Italy's Jessica Rossi has set world and Olympic records in qualifying for the women's trap shooting competition at the London Games, making all 75 of her shots over three rounds.
Victoria Chuyko of the Ukraine held the world record for 14 years, shooting a 74 at the European Championships in 1998. The former Olympic record was 71, set by Daina Gudzineviciute of Lithuania at the 2000 Sydney Games.
The 23 year-old Lebanon shooter Ray Bassil, completed the three rounds with 64 shots out of the total 75, placing her in 18th place amongst the total 22 qualifiers.
Bassil ranked within the top 15 throughout the late morning, early afternoon trap qualifying rounds but failed to secure a spot in the top six final qualifying positions.
Bassil’s mother and father were also both successful athletes.
Bassil’s father, Jack, is a former Lebanese champion in volleyball and a former Lebanese champion in shooting and her mother, Joceline, was a member of Lebanon’s women’s volleyball team, which competed in the 1980 World Championship, according to the official Olympics 2012 website.
