Lebanon world cup qualifier train-on squad announced

BEIRUT: The train-on team for the Lebanese Rugby League Federation’s contingent at the October 2013 Rugby League World Cup European Zone qualifiers has been announced.

The 39 players, named by coach David Bayssari over the weekend, includes 15 members of the 2009 European Cup squad, which placed third after victories against Italy and Ireland. It also contains eight players who represented Lebanon in the 2008 World Cup qualifiers in 2006 and 2007.

“I am extremely satisfied with the players we have selected,” said Bayssari, who became Lebanon’s fifth head coach in June. “Having spoken to our Australian-based players, the desire to represent Lebanon is as strong as ever and everyone is determined to help Lebanon qualify for the world cup in 2013.”

The squad includes National Rugby League talent Johnny Mannah and Reece Robinson, and 19-year-old Jason Wehbe, a former New South Wales Origin U16 five-eighth.

The new squad and their teams are as follows:
