BELGRADE: Serbian president Boris Tadic has decorated tennis world number one Novak Djokovic with the highest state honour medal for being "the best ambassador" for the country, his office said Tuesday.

"Novak Djokovic is being decorated ... for particular merits and successes in representing the Republic of Serbia" on the occasion of Statehood Day, the president's office said in a statement.

The decoration will be handed over to Djokovic at a ceremony to be held on Wednesday in the Serbian parliament.
