With over 130,000 American troops occupying Iraq and the US administration declaring "a generational commitment to helping the people of the Middle East transform their region," as Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice said on Aug. 7, it is obvious that the United States has moved away from its traditional stance of upholding the regional status quo toward a proactive, interventionist policy.
