I have always found the Arab Gulf countries, especially the smaller ones with some room for political expression like Bahrain, Qatar and Kuwait, to be excellent barometers of the political and social state of mind in the Arab world. Within these societies, youth are excellent barometers of living conditions and citizen attitudes, for they are usually the first population group both to reflect emerging problems and stresses.
